There are very few games that I can recall at this moment in time that on the Xbox One that are truly atmospheric. The most atmospheric a game is means the greater the emotional reaction you can hope to evoke from your audience, cinema learned this lesson many years ago. The horrible thing in gaming today is trying to creating an interactive environment that both impresses and pulls you in.
I am maybe not being fair, triple A titles very rarely seem to be able to pull off this feat. Indie games in recent years have managed to pull this off with great success with the likes of Amnesia, Slender and This War Of Mine. These games are simplistic concepts executed with a passion and a budget the fraction of your Assassins Creed games or COD; and at the same time arguably much more gripping.
The latest of the PC indie horror market to make its way onto the Xbox One is the LKA title The Town of Light. This game takes its concept from real facts and extensive research from mental illness patients in Asylums from the early 1900’s. A source material that is a little macabre but almost refreshing at the same time.
Modern gaming seems to throw Aliens and Zombies at players constantly, yet what about the real horrors that face people every single day all around the world?
The Town of Light console début trailer speaks volumes about the game that looks to possibly be the most refreshing title on the Xbox title of the year so far.
