Welcome to another games release round round up! We’ve got a lot to get through this week with a total of 6 games being released for Xbox One so let’s crack on!
Unravel – 09/02/16
First up is a little game you may hve heard something about the past couple of weeks. It’s none other than Unravel! Developed by Coldwood Interactive and published by EA, this is a physics-based puzzle platform game where you control the protagonist Yarny, a small anthropomorphic creature about the size of an apple.
You play through various levels using the wool that Yanry consists of to solve numerous puzzles and discover hidden secrets.
Unravel is due for release on Tuesday the 9th Feb but if you can’t wait until tomorrow, then EA Access users can download a trial and play through two levels if you want to try before you buy.
Alekhine’s Gun – 09/02/16
Next up is the third person stealth shooter Alekhine’s Gun, developed and published by Maximum Games. Set during World War II and The Cold War, you play as the CIA hired KGB agent Semyon Strogov, referred to as Agent Alekhine. Little side note for you, the title of the game comes from the chess formation named after the World Chess Champion, Alexander Alekhine. So there you go.
For those of you needing a Metal Gear or Hitman fix this may be the game for you as the levels ave been described as non-linear and you have the choice of how you want to complete them, either by using total stealth or shooting your way through to the goal. You could always go for a mixture of both if you want to mix it up a little.
The plot also features around real life historical events including the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the assassination of J.F.K. If you’ve not heard of either of these I’d make your way to Wikipedia for a little history lesson.
Alekhine’s Gun will be out on Tuesday the 9th Feb along Unravel.
Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition – 09/02/16
Also out on Tuesday is the expansion DLC for Dying Light: The Following. This is free to Season Pass holders so if you’ve already bought your season pass then be careful not to buy it again through the marketplace. If you haven’t got the season pass you’ll need to make your way to the marketplace and buy your copy.
In The Following you can expect to see new rural/industrial farm, grassland environment as well as Dirt-Buggies (always fun), new weapons and a new story for you to sink your teeth into. Little zombie pun for those that appreciate that kind of thing.
The DLC will include much more but I don’t want to spoil any more surprises for you.
Dying Light: The Following will be out on Tuesday 09th Feb.
Mighty No. 9 – 09/02/16
The last game to be released tomorrow is Mighty No.9. The game has been jointly developed by Concept and Inti Creates and is published by Spike Chunsoft in Japan and Deep Silver for everywhere else.
You’ll notice that Mighty No. 9 is closely resembles another of Keiji Inafune’s characters, Mega Man, in both design and gameplay. Mighty No. 9 is considered a spiritual successor to Mega Man.
You play as an android named Beck, the ninth unit in a set of combat units called the Might Numbers. A computer virus has infected the rest of the unit and it’s your job to take down the rogue robots and find out who is behind the virus attack.
The game is a 2D platform game with a focus on 2D & 3D artwork and animation. You can expect to see a lot of similarities to Mega Man and should enjoy this game if you also like Mega Man. For those that haven’t played Mega Man before this will be a good introduction from a similar game.
Mighty No. 9 is due to be release on Tuesday 09th Feb.
Factotum 90 – 09/02/16
Moving onto the rest of the week now we have Factotum 90! The twin screen robotic puzzle game has been developed and released by TACS Games.
You find yourself stranded in deep space after something has collided with your ship and find that main power is offline. You must you use the twin robots to solve numerous puzzles and restore power to the ship.
It’s along the lines of Portal 2 except you’re on your own and there’s no sadistic GLaDOS to worry about either! Always a good thing.
Factotum is out on Xbox One on Wednesday 10th Feb. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can also look forward to a 20% launch discount. Not too shabby!
Arslan: The Warriors of Legend – 12/02/16
We have reached the last release of the week and this takes the form of Arslan: The Warriors of Legend developed by Omega Force and published by Koei.
This is the second video game adaptation of Yoshiki Tanaka’s The Heroic Legend of Arslan series. The visuals and characters are based on the 2015 anime series which uses the designs from Hiromu Arakawa’a manga adaptation.
Warriors of Legend is a hack and slash game reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors or Ninety Nine Nights (if you can remember that far back), so if you are a fan of these sorts of games you will definitely like this. You can expect to see the massive battles on the scale of those you’re likely to see in the anime and manga series.
