When planning Halo Month, we wanted to do something really special for the video content. Luckily we know John, AKA “The World’s Tallest Spartan” and have for a number of years. We approached him with the idea of being the live action star of our promotional videos and he was game.
He really is an extraordinary guy and this is his story.
Hey Halo fans, John here.
I started making my first Halo Spartan cosplay back in 2012 and finished it after 800 hours of work, just in time for the release of Halo 4. The press was there and I ended up on the front page of the newspaper the same day that Obama was re-inaugurated into office! (So I was on the front page of the newspaper, not him.) 12 days later I was in the front page of The Wall Street Journal.
After 4 years of wearing my black and gold, custom made, Spartan suit of armour, I decided it was time to become the Master Chief. I sought after prop builders who were experienced in building Armour using EVA foam, as I had zero experience and a deadline for an appearance.
I came across Philip Shinner, professional Halo props builder and prop God. We quickly set out to make a hyper realistic Master Chief suit of armour that would be one to one scale and inevitably the most badass, most realistic suit on the planet. Even 343 Industries employees personally told us that our suit was better than the suits that they bought from professional companies for their live action films.
I am 6 foot 11 flat footed and 7.2 in the Master Chief armour. I am 27 years old and I love Halo and have loved Halo for the past 14 years.
Ever since our release of the Master Chief Armour that EVAkura Armour built, we made several appearances for charity and children all over the Washington and Idaho area. Recently, we’ve been picked up by a company known as Visionary Entertainment. For the next 12 months we will be making appearances nationwide as the Master Chief along with ODST’s and a one to one scale drop pod simulator.

At this time we are working on making a new Halo 5 Master Chief exo-suit. We are also contemplating making some real life vehicle props. We’re thinking about making life size one to one scale Covenant mannequins. Visionary Entertainment is in the process of making a new simulator that is part of the UNSC. We’re going to try and make some Halo 5 videos… fan made professional. There is little need to redo the armour of the suit. There are very subtle differences between the Halo 4 armour and the Halo 5 armour of the Master Chief.
