User Interface
Improvements all round here the designers have been reading the community forums for the past 3 years and looking at what improvements you would like in the Halo Forge. Here are some improvement and features that have been added. Multi selection with edit options, Grid/Rotation Snap, Precision Editing and Smart Mapping. 343 have also added Grouping and Welding which should make life easier for us all.
Content
Yes , a massive 1600+ assets have been added including a large adorable whale ! Every map has access to the same library of Assets taking away the constraints we had with previous titles. As well as new object types, enhancements have been made to our previously loved assets. Most objects also come with Primary, Secondary and Territorial Colour options with over 100 different colours to choose from.
Asset Budget
For me the asset budget has always been an issue when creating maps in forge. Here are some improvements that have been made.
Higher Object Count – The map now holds a object counter, and our limit is now an amazing 1024 assets!
Multi Budget System – This budgets the level content, yes they have finally done away with that currency they had. No need to go into any form of technical jargon here. 343 Industries have designed a tool to view how our budget system as we build. Object, Memory, Light-maps and SFX will be taken into consideration when building your stats can easily be viewed on the top left of the screen as shown in the image above.
Maps
You can forge on any Area/ Breakout map as well as these Larger Maps that 343 Industries have built to maximise the use of the Forge editor.

Meet Glacier, This Halo map is screaming nothing but Star Wars at me, especially after playing a recent beta. Even if it doesn’t really look like Hoth, it may lack a few X-Wings and AT-AT walker but it will when I’m finished with it.

Meet… The unknown this map actually still doesn’t have a name. From what we can see this map is set out in space, possibly orbiting a planet. We can also see a Halo Ring in the background. I’m already thinking of ideas for creating a space station with the Core from Portal 2 flying past the window every

As someone who has had a bit of game development experience I prefer to have my own identity when creating maps. I think that combined with being limited to assets is the main reason why I haven’t really connected with Forge in previous titles. This new Forge mode adds a lot more content and editing choices meaning that I should be able to deliver a bit more of my identity. I am definitely looking forward to this content in December.
