The UK Games Fund, announced today, is a new grant-awarding body aimed at small-to-medium-sized developers. The fund offers grants of £25 000 to develop new game prototypes, and a limited number of £50 000 grants are also available to help bring already-prototyped titles to market. The UK Games Fund is administered by recently-established non-profit UK Games Talent and Finance CIC, with finance provided by the UK government.
The programme is expected to run from 2015 to 2019; applications aren’t open as yet, but UKGaFCIC promises more details ‘in due course’.
Terms and eligibility criteria are yet to be announced, but the fund is expected to emulate the model of Abertay University’s now-discontinued Prototype Fund, which received support from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills during its three-year run.
