Rockstar North have donated a 4 figure sum to a charity holding a gaming fundraiser for sick kids.
Sick Kids Save Point have been raising money for the Sick Kids Hospital for the last 5 years, and have managed to raise £71,000 over the years. This year they will be focusing on the money going towards the building of a new children’s hospital on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
They are holding a 24 hour gaming marathon from the 9th-11th of October and are hoping to be able to boost up their fundraising amount which they have collected over the years, to £100,000 in their sixth year. Participants can either take part in their own home, or at a venue, and send updates through social media.
During the last five years, the annual gaming marathon has snowballed into a huge event and is one of the biggest Scottish gaming events, and has been improving the image of gamers, who suffered a blow after the well publicised ‘Gamergate’, which involved thousands of gamers from all over the world sending death threats to female developers and journalists. Sick Kids Save Point are determined to show that not all gamers are bad people, and that good things can come from gaming.
Rockstar North have supported the charity every year, and annually donate money and memorabilia to be won by fundraisers who sign up to take part in the marathon. Other companies who support the fundraiser include Blazing Griffin, Ludometrics, Atlus, Paradox Interactive, Codemasters UK, Capcom UK and others. Anyone who manages to raise over £100 in sponsorship automatically enters the prize draw.
The Sick Kids Save Point marathon itself takes place from the 9th to the 11th of October 2015. 35 teams or individuals are signed up to take part. There’s still enough time to sign up, and organisers are still looking for games creators to donate games or merchandise to be used for prizes for fundraisers.
