In what may be a shock to some (so take a seat before you read this), Call of Duty Black Ops 3 will not feature its campaign mode on last-generation consoles.
Said by many to be the weakest part of recent Call of Duty iterations, the Campaign “could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware”, according to a press release from Activision. The Xbox 360 version will only contain the Multiplayer and Zombie modes, but some features will still be missing from multiplayer, including the the e-sports tools and weapon paint shop.
This does come with something of a price drop, with the last generation versions retailing for $49.99 instead of the new generations $59.99. Unfortunately for the UK, the prices seem a little confusing. Having a gander on Amazon.co.uk, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of the game are both retailing at £44.00, while the PS3 version is reduced to £39.99, though this is likely to change, as is usual with Amazon.
This is something of a controversial move from Activision and Treyarch, but it does call into question the reason people play Call of Duty these days. Much like it’s Fifa counterpart, the yearly additions to the franchise are bought and played for the additions and updates made to the multiplayer portions of the game (Ultimate Team for EA Sports games). This keeps friends up to date with their mates so they can keep playing together in the brand spanking new release every year. But would Call of Duty be better to just gave us multiplayer modes at a lower price point, instead of spending development time and money on a campaign that tends to only bring complaints?
It’s something to think about.
Will this force you and your friends to upgrade to the Xbox One? Are you upset with this news? Let us know!
