When it was announced at last year’s E3 during Microsoft’s press conference that Phantom Dust would be rebooted as an Xbox One exclusive, many scratched their heads whilst others were busy on their mobiles researching what Phantom Dust actually is. But the hardcore faithful who remember the cult classic from 2005 were ecstatic. Sadly their excitement was brought to a halt when it was revealed that developers Darkside had began to lay off employees and shutter after Microsoft refused to provide further funding in order to bring the reboot to life. Fast forward a year since its original announcement, it has been confirmed that Phantom Dust has been put on hold as there is no active developer on the project. But fear not; Phil Spencer himself has reiterated his hope for the return of the action-strategy game and has confirmed that the project is not cancelled. With Microsoft focusing heavily on their first-party lineup for the next couple of years, it may be some time until Phantom Dust sees the light of day.

Which developer would you like to see working on the Phantom Dust reboot? Let us know in the comments.
