Halo 5 opened up the Microsoft Press Conference today. Starting off, we got a look at the campaign. The level we saw had us in the boots of Spartan Locke, with his team of Spartans attacking what looks to be a Covenant Planet. Allied with the Arbiter, they drop in. We got a glimpse of giving commands to your team of Spartans, dialogue between the characters and a look at Locke’s Artemis system, which can point out points of interest within the level.
After meeting what they called the Guardian looking for the Master Chief, all hell breaks loose as the city collapses around the team. Just as they escape the debris, a firefight with Prometheons breaks loose. Crawlers, familiar to Halo 4 players are back, but joining them are a new type of foot soldier that looks like a slender version of the Knights, and a VTOL aircraft that resembled a giant watcher. The demo ends with Locke getting grabbed by a giant Prometheon enemy, who seems to imply that he allowed the Master Chief to pass, while Locke was not given this permission.
After the exhilarating experience, we got a look at the newest multiplayer offering for Halo 5. 24 players in what’s being called Warzone. Players Vs. Everything pits what seems to be two teams against each other with AI Controlled enemies as well. What was shown was hectic and insane on almost all levels, and very hard to follow. What we did see was Covenant and Prometheon AI enemies fighting players, and players fighting other players. The interesting thing was two brightly coloured red Hunters, which may imply that they are either player controlled or fighting for the Red Team players.
It’s a lot to take in, in a fairly short space in time. All of it looks fantastic for any Halo fan, and I’m eager to see where the game will be heading when it’s out later this year.
Keep checking back to XBLG as we keep you up to date with all the coverage from E3 2015.
