Xbox announced today, during a showcase of many indie games coming to ID@Xbox, that a new program dubbed Game Preview is coming to Xbox One. Those familiar with Steam on PC will know the system of Early Access, allowing gamers to buy into games that are still in development so that they can play the game early, report bugs and generally have fun watching a game evolve and grow as it consistently gets updates. This is what is happening with Game Preview.
One of these games, ION, is being developed by the creator of the popular Zombie Survival Simulator mod, turned full game, Dean Hall. The game will be available first from the Game Preview program, and it looks incredibly interesting. He said that he wanted a game that wasn’t a game, and that he’s been working to make a prototype into a long term project, allowing the players through this early access scheme to govern the way this project is shaped.
They also announced some games that are going to available today, the day of the conference. Elite: Dangerous and The Long Dark will be the first games on the Xbox Game Preview program, and will be joined by Shelter and DayZ.
Keep tuned to XBLG as more from E3 2015 continues to get posted.
