I’m happy to see more games deviate from the “realistic” norm that higher-end graphics claim to boast these days. The greys, the browns, and the… darker shades of grey and brown go hand-in-hand with cutting-edge rendering software. But every few months a studio continues to bite the bullet and release a game that goes against that scheme. Indie studios are much more likely to take that chance, but it’s always nice to see everyone take that chance.

At the end of the month, Insomniac will be re-entering the fray with their new title, Sunset Overdrive. The game features rail traversal, hostile mutant mobs, and a punk aesthetic that’s been apparent ever since the reveal. Better yet, Sunset Overdrive has just gone gold, meaning the October release is basically guaranteed at this point.

Sunset Overdrive will also have pre-order bonuses that may be to your liking:

Nothing but the hits: an upgrade to the already-present high-fidelity gun, which will launch limited edition vinyl records. The gun will also do more damage than the high-fidelity gun.

It’s Me! Fizzie!: players will be able to don the costume of the boisterous FizzCo Mascot because hey, consumerism.

Hardcore! Hammer: adding to the list of DIY weapons, this hammer consists of a baseball bat and spiked dumbbells.

Sunset Overdrive drops on October 28th in North America, and October 31st in the EU.
