Just when you thought you might be done with the Ultimate Evil Edition of Diablo 3, Blizzard just throw some new content to your faces. Just before the release on consoles, the PC version of Diablo 3 was updated to 2.1.0. Now, the new consoles get a chance to see all the new content.
The first major patch for the expansion to Diablo 3, Reaper of Souls, adds a lot of new content, as well as balancing for many of the classes in the game. First of all, a whole new environment has been added to the Nephalem Rifts in the game. Dubbed “The Cesspools”, this area was originally designed as the sewers of Westmarch, and it is a dark dank underworld to explore and plunder. Everyone who plays Diablo has had a Treasure Goblin disappear into a portal if you didn’t manage to quite kill them. Now, there’s a chance that these portals will stay, allowing you the enter “The Vault.” A new boss, the Baroness Greed, as well as a lot of treasure awaits. These will only appear in Adventure mode, and do not appear during Rifts.
Speaking of Rifts, there’s not just regular Nephalem Rifts anymore. For players looking for a bigger challenge, Greater Rifts are here. They’re a timed version of a Nephalem Rift, and there’s an infinite number of levels, each progressively more difficult than the last. No loot will drop during this until you succeed in spawning and killing the Guardian of that rift. If successful, players can choose between upgrading their new Legendary Gems, or the opportunity to move onto the next level of Greater Rift. Again, these are only accessible in Adventure Mode.
Those Legendary Gems I just mentioned are also new. They drop during Greater Rifts and the Vault, and offer more powerful abilities when socketed into Rings or Amulets. Ramaldni’s Gift is also a new Legendary item. This Gift allows players to add a socket to any weapon that doesn’t already have one, can drop randomly within the game world and is consumed on use.
Unfortunately, the Seasons system that was introduced on the PC version of this patch doesn’t seem to be included, and is looking likely that it will not be coming to the console version of the game.
That’s just a quick summary of what’s new, and considering the amount of content in this free patch, fans of Diablo 3 should be squeeling at the chance to continue playing and being rewarded in new and exciting ways. This patch is currently only confirmed for the Xbox One, as the Xbox 360 version of the game may not be under the same patching methodology as the next generation release of the game.
