Well, folks, this is interesting. Doctor Who, that long-running franchise from the BBC hasn’t always translated into interactive mediums all that well, but as of 2021, that might change. Hot off the press, we can reveal that in 2021, Doctor Who is getting a PC game called Doctor Who: Worlds Apart.
Courtesy of Mimram Media and Reality Gaming Group, Whovians can now collect digital trading cards of their favourite heroes and villains in a trading card game available on iOS and PC. There are over 200 to collect with various scenes, monsters and characters from over 57 years of lore. On top of that, there are 13 different and unique card frames to collect, with each scene being hand drawn.
Using said cards and frames, people who buy these cards then duke it out in turn-based combat using a free-to-play PC game launching in 2021. Don’t worry about cards getting cloned or faked though, as every card is unique and protected by a digital blockchain.
Gamespress.com spoke to Morten Rongaard who is the Co-Founder of Reality Gaming Group. He said: “We are tremendously excited to be working with BBC Studios to bring Doctor Who’s huge global community an exciting new digital experience based on a pastime we all know and love – trading cards. The cards used in Doctor Who: Worlds Apart are both functional and collectible, so fans can actually own a piece of the game while they play.”
