Last night the new system update was released for those lucky enough to own an Xbox One, featuring a whole host of new features. Most of the new features were ideas and suggestions put forward by gamers to the Xbox Feedback website.
The new features include an updated activity feed, the live feed is now set out as a scrolling singular column which contains a lot more content of friend’s activity than ever before. The ability to now share, like and comment on game clips has now been added (for both console and mobile devices with the Smartglass app), with notifications in place to alert you of anyone taking a liking to your clips. There is also a plan in the works to post a status like update onto your news feed.
The friends list has also had an upgrade and will now show you when a friend was last online and to which their last activity was (much like how things are on the Xbox 360).
Another new feature I’m sure we can all benefit from is a notification popping on screen when your controller is running out of battery. Making sure you can change your batteries or plug in you play and charge kit just in time for your penalty shoot out in FIFA or in time for that Titan drop in Titanfall.
The ability to play 3D Blu-Ray titles has also been added (albeit if you have a 3D TV that is, unfortunately Microsoft can’t work wonders). You can also turn off any notifications appearing whilst watching a movie.
One of the coolest added features in the update is the ability to make purchases via the Smartglass app on your mobile device, meaning if you have your Xbox One set to automatic updates, it will start downloading from the moment of purchase. That means that purchase you made at work today will be ready for you by the time you get home.
Xbox feedback are still welcoming ideas to improve the system via their dedicated website, and have stated that there will be new features available for social media and TV very soon. Watch this space.
