Just days before Xbox: Game On at E3, Microsoft have announced that 45 more apps will be available on Xbox One and Xbox 360. Xbox: Game On will take place on Monday 9th June at 9:30am PDT. The new apps include Vine, HBO GO, ShowTime Anytime, Comedy Central, Major League Gaming (MLG) and optimised-for-TV Twitter. With the addition of these 45 apps, the catalog of apps available on Xbox One and Xbox 360 will increase by 25%.
The optimised-for-TV Twitter app sounds pretty interesting. The app will be integrated into Xbox One’s TV experience (however, there’s only a mention of this being in the US so far). With this app, tweets relating to the TV show you are watching will appear on the screen. This sounds like it could be quite annoying, but I guess it depends on what you’re watching at the time. What sounds better though is the integration into the TV guide which will show you what’s trending and what’s popular.
The past few months have seen a TV focus from Microsoft, in order to make the Xbox One and Xbox 360 the biggest and best entertainment experiences available. Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President, Devices and Studios at Microsoft had this to say:
“…as we announce new commitments from dozens of our partners, including deep integration with experiences like Twitter and Vine, we hit an important milestone in our journey to deliver unique experiences on Xbox. We’re thrilled to break new ground in social TV experiences like we’re doing with Xbox One.”
