Frank O’Connor took to NeoGaf to lament leaks in the gaming industry;

“Breaking embargos is not prophesy, nor does it require any particular skill or insight. Ultimately he is taking or being given information and leaking it, illegally and often erroneously, and he isn’t doing it for some noble or worthy reason. He’s doing it for attention. People, including nice people with kids and families and stuff, work super hard on this stuff and wake up in the morning to find some of their effort blown up. It’s not fun, and for what? So you can have a mildly interesting surprise 8 hours early and lacking context? Or get hyped or disappointed disproportionately? Or get someone fired or someone innocent yelled at? Ok. But it isn’t prophecy, nor ultimately even important. It’s annoying.”

Obviously he’s referring to what’s been going down around the halo community, the leaks and rumors that seem to be coming true, such as the prediction for the Halo 5 announcement made by Shinobi602 on twitter, I quote again “mildly interesting surprise 8 hours early and lacking context” the talk about Halo 2 Anniversary coming this year and Halo 5 coming next year, which seems to be coming true, and of course the collection rumors.

Now in most cases I would agree, but with Halo however 343 have been suffocating us. I’m not a Bungie loyalist, but when it comes to Bungie I appreciate how they spoil us with their constant updates, concept art, in game pictures or videos, etc etc. They let us know what’s going on, 343 have been off radar for almost a year, of course people are going to come looking for you. I can’t help but think that if they were a little more open with us, a little less secretive, then people wouldn’t have a reason to go hack, leak or seek out leaked content. Of course you’ll be heralded as a hero by giving us information early, even when it’s out of context, because total secrecy is somewhat controversial and oppressive, I’m not saying that they should ruin all the surprises, but for goodness sake would it have been THAT bad to at least give us a title?
