As it was previously reported, Assassins Creed Unity and Comet are to be released this coming Autumn. There is no denying that Assassins Creed Unity will be released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, since Ubisoft provided us with a sneak peak of what is to come. However, not much is known about the other game in the franchise; Assassins Creed Comet, which is to be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
According to Gamespot, Comet will be released at the same time as Unity and will be set in North America with ailing missions off the coast of New York. Sounds a bit like Assassins Creed 3, does it not? Hopefully these supposed ‘sailing missions’ are of the same calibre as those seen in Assassins Creed 4 since that will differentiate Comet from AC3.
But, there will be one major difference associated with Comet that will either make the game great, or will turn you off from the franchise altogether. This new feature will reportedly have you play as a Templar named Shay who betrays the captain of his ship. So why call it Assassins Creed if playing as a Templar?
The game will also supposedly let players travel to New York and do a great deal of sailing in the Atlantic Ocean. As a lover of the franchise, this news does not excite me as much as Unity has with its teaser trailer. There is nothing in the Atlantic Ocean, unless they plan on introducing more than exploring underwater wrecks and harpooning sharks. According to Kotaku, Assassins Creed Comet will be a cross between Assassins Creed 3 and the Freedom Cry DLC for Assassins Creed 4 being set in and around 1758. Characters like Haytham Kenway and Adewale are also reportedly set to appear in Comet.
So, while Unity is set in a new era with new characters, settings and storylines…. Comet is simply another add-on for AC3 and AC4, which might bridge the gap between how the protagonist in AC3 and AC4 came to be. Sounds very much like AC: Brotherhood and AC: Revelations to me.
Please bear in mind, that since Ubisoft have declined to comment on the report today by Kotaku on Assassins Creed Comet, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
