Phil Spencer the Microsoft Studios Chief has recently been singing the praise of Valve on stage at Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2014.  During and on stage interview Phil said this about Valve,

“I think Valve is an incredible company,”

Phil continued to praise Valve and say,

They’ve been the backbone for PC gaming for the last decade. As a Windows company, I appreciate what they’ve done. In many ways, they focused more on PC gaming than we have.”

The questioning turned to whether it was a good idea for Value to turn to console gaming  with the Steam Machines which Phil responded,

“Makes sense for them

For the reasons based around their customer base already buys a considerable amount of content from them and here will be a platform (other than a PC) to use it on.

What I found rather excellent from this is reflected in the last comment coming up; the fact that Microsoft welcomes the competition. Yes I know sales numbers are chased but its other companies that keep your games and hardware evolving into something that bit more better.  Phil Spencer is more than aware of this too and said,

“I look at more people in the space as a good thing.”

Do you think you’d be setting up a Steam Machine next to your X1 or 360 or do you wish they’d look at Amazon Kindle for inspiration and allow the Steam app to roll out to all platforms?
