As many of you have been so excited for Titanfall releasing today, you may have missed the fact that today is also the release of Dark Souls 2 on the Xbox 360. The sequel to Dark Souls and spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls 2 improves on many different mechanics and adds a bunch more functionality to the game, as well as tightening up the difficulty to make it that little bit harder.
Much like Titanfall, Dark Souls 2 received the Midnight Launch Treatment, and a lot of people attempted to jump online to invade, summon and partake in some jolly co-operation when they got home with their copy of the game. Unfortunately, the amount of players seems to have taxed the dedicated servers for Dark Souls 2, as the online component was down for most of the night, and intermittent when it managed to log any players in.
A message still reads today that the servers have been acting up, though they seem a little more stable now. This may be purely the amount of people jumping in and dying over and over again, as the shrine in the hub area of the game shows that the worldwide deaths have almost reached 5 million. Clearly people are playing and enjoying the game when the servers are up, with bloodstains littered almost everywhere and summon signs being placed near bosses and bonfires, much like the previous game.
It’s unknown when the servers will actually stabilize, but From Software and Bandai Namco seem to be working on it, and it already appears that you can stay logged in much longer at this point in time. It’s unknown whether the issues have been fixed, however, as there will be an influx of players through the day as the guys who didn’t go to get it at midnight will start playing the game later tonight.
