It seems that Ubisoft will be having a great year for big game releases, and Watch Dogs is no exception.
While we were all eagerly anticipating the release of Watch Dogs last year (before it was delayed until May 2014), people still didn’t really know what you could DO in the game. Hacking, yes…. But to what extent?
Colin Graham, animation director and Danny Belanger, lead game designer at Ubisoft Motreal have talked about the things they enjoyed hacking the most in Watch Dogs. They also revealed a new type of hack people can make. Colin Graham said:
“There are these guys that have IEDs, they have bombs on them, and they are the same ones that Aiden throws. I really like hacking them because they’re kind of unpredictable, and it’s really funny to watch a guy try and figure out why his belt is beeping, look at it and say, ‘oh no.'” It’s pure fun.”
‘Pure fun’ you say? Well Belanger had this to add:
“It’s so hard but I’ll have to go with jam-coms because if you disrupt people, the cell phone, the police scanners, it has so many applications, it’s so cool. It’s an all-round tool.”

OK so we have hacking enemy IEDs, hacking communications, police scanners, mobile phones and other cool applications………. Hmmmm Watch Dogs isn’t even out yet and I feel like training myself to use my phone to hack things!
We already knew about Aiden’s (that’s the main character for those catching up), ability to hack an IED he sets out himself, but we didn’t know about his ability to hack into an IED worn by an enemy.
As seen in the E3 trailer, other items that are hackable included: Mobile phones, cameras, traffic lights, helicopters, garage doors, steam pipes, cranes, road blockers, gates, doors, electric keyboards, ATM machines, trains and much much much more. OK, not ALL of that was seen in the E3 trailer, but you get the idea. Everything and anything electronic is hackable… or it should be.
Watch Dogs will be released in May 27th on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC. Like Ubisoft’s Facebook page, follow their Twitter account or visit the Official Website for Watch Dogs.
