If you didn’t know already, the developer for Battlefront 3, DICE, also develops the Battlefield franchise and because of Battlefield 4’s… problems, the company had to get all hands on deck to fix the bugs which meant that resources were diverted away from Battlefront. The company has two studios, one in Stockholm Sweden and one in Los Angeles USA; both were tasked with fixing the problems with Battlefield 4. About a week ago they announced that the Stockholm studio will be back on Battlefront soon and we can all expect a release date for 2015. The news came via Reddit when a DICE rep told fans that the next Battlefield 4 DLC would be the final one developed by the Stockholm studio and the other two projects in the works are being handled by DICE L.A.
“DICE Stockholm is doing Naval Strike, everything else will be done by DICE LA” – Battleblog rep.
So that’s it, one more Battlefield DLC and the work on Battlefront begins. Apart from that there isn’t much to say about the highly anticipated series except people are a little worried about EA publishing it; considering their track record who wouldn’t? Maybe I can put your worries to rest a little because it seems that DICE is very committed to doing Battlefront 3 right. EA’s Label Executive, Patrick Soderlund went out of his way to speak well about them when he spoke to Polygon about the progress of the game, this was after the E3 reveal:
“The most important thing for me is that we take the Star Wars license and come up with games where peoples’ jaws drop,” he said. “We need to do with this what [Batman: Arkham Asylum] did for the Batman license. It’s going to take awhile. We just announced the license and showed a sneak peek of Hoth. The speeder and the AT-AT will be in [the game] for sure. We didn’t toss anything out.”
I understand why people are worried though, but there’s no need to list any of their past mistakes; *ehem* Battlefield 4. Anyway, I’m sure it will be fine. I can look past any minor bugs as long as the full game lives up to it’s predecessors and is actually fully complete… DICE was vocal about that subject too, saying that the game will be more than just a generic FPS shooter with star wars just glued on top
“People don’t want another Battlefield with Star Wars graphics; they want a Star Wars game that is proper” Battlefield 4’s executive producer Patrick Bach told Videogamer.
A bit of last minute intel: EA confirmed a third person “mode” will be a part of the game, and from some footage I’ve seen it looks like it’ll be first person as well or they might leave that choice up to you when you play. EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen said the game “will most likely come out around the same time the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15”, but that was last year during a call to EA’s headquarters. We know that the new movie will be released December 18, 2015 so there’s rumors that it might come later than expected, perhaps November which is a good month for high profile games.
