A user on Reddit used a Twitch Analyser to determine the quality of a recent stream by Major Nelson using the Xbox One’s upcoming Twitch App’s Streaming functions. The user discovered that it was displaying at 720p and 30fps, which is currently higher than what the PS4 offers with the same service. Xbox’s competitor supposedly streams at 960×540 and also at 30FPS. What this means is that the look of the stream will be better, but it will display at the same framerate. While the difference in resolutions will be small, but noticeable, it’s important to note that the streams being at 30fps isn’t a bad thing. Though games look better at 60fps, it takes a lot of power to stream at this quality, in fact most videos on YouTube don’t run that high, and things like movies (bar the new Hobbit movies) have never run around 60fps.
It is also noted that the Xbox One also allows users to archive the streams they do, which the competitor does not, meaning you can upload them later, or allow users on Twitch to view them if they missed the stream when it went live. The Xbox App will also allow people to block out Party Chat while streaming, view the chat of the stream and look at the viewer statistics without showing them on the actual stream. This means that because of the Xbox One’s snap features, you essentially have a second monitor available to keep an eye on the things you want to while streaming, keeping an eye on how many people are watching and making sure that people aren’t being too rowdy in the chat.
The full statistics are available for you to browse here, just in case you need a little more information before you start streaming your games.
The Streaming functionality will be available next week, on the 11th of March.
