Friends! Romans! Gladiators! On February 28th a second add-on pack for Ryse: Son of Rome called “Mars Chosen Pack” will be available. This new pack, introduced by Microsoft Studios and Crytek, includes new maps, a character skin and a brand-new cooperative gameplay type called Survival Mode.

In this mode, there is only one objective: Battle alongside a fellow gladiator against endless waves of barbarians as your health gradually drains, leaving to your inevitable fall. The only way to regain health is to execute quick kills and brutal executions. The longer you survive, the faster your health depletes.

How Survival Mode differs from Arena and Solo Mode is that it changes the strategy of the arena altogether. This mode is more cooperative since “more than anything you will need to work with your partner to survive”, says Justin Robey Senior Producer. He continued to say that “the best part yet is how we approached building the maps for Survivor mode. Each map makes is a distinctly different experience”.

Justin Robey added “don’t want to spoil too much, but let’s just say that sometimes where you can move around is very limited. I know, I know, EVIL! Hmmmmm…. So maybe Survivor Mode is actually rather hard to do just that: Survive?

In addition to survival mode, “Mars Chosen Pack” also features 5 maps. Two of the maps; Firestorm and Dockyard are specifically created for Survival Mode and the most popular map, Courtyard, has been optimised for Survival Mode. The other two; Pyramid and Obelisk – will transport you to the distant and exotic shores of Ancient Egypt in Arena Mode. Lastly, the Legionary is the new character skin of the add-on pack.

Since Ryse: Son of Rome launched on 22 November, Crytek and Microsoft Studios have been working hard to improve fan’s experiences with the game. A few months ago, they released a free game update that added multiplayer leaderboards and 2 new level events to Gladiator Mode.
