Hot off the press is the reveal of the Microsoft’s game streaming service called Project xCloud.
First teased by Microsoft at E3 2018 during the press event in June, the company today demonstrated the service in action with a video featuring the likes of Forza and Halo being played on handheld devices. The games although designed for Xbox, can be played on your Android phones and tablets using an Xbox controller paired over Bluetooth. If you don’t have a controller available, a touchscreen overlay can otherwise be provided as an alternative.
Public trials are set to begin in 2019, so Microsoft can learn and scale with the volume demand in the various locations. The idea is also to allow those who don’t have access to Xbox hardware and games, the chance to play them on alternative devices and new choices in when and where they play.
‘With datacenters in 54 Azure regions and services available in 140 countries, Azure has the scale to deliver a great gaming experience for players worldwide, regardless of their location.’ quotes Kareem Choudry – Corporate Vice President of the Gaming Cloud at Microsoft.
