A number of rumblings have been doing the rounds since the Xbox One was launched back in November, and one that has had very little air time has been some of the problems with taking input from a media box such as your Virgin Tivo or Sky Plus HD box (other media providers are available) and having it pass through your Xbox so you can watch and still get notifications from friends inviting you to games or having a bit of a Skype chat over the football, or Eastenders or whatever floats your boat.
The idea is fine, and in the US has been well executed, however complaints in the UK were that on occasion the picture would jump and stutter, and this was attributed to your media box running at 50Hz, and your Xbox One at 60Hz. Fear not good citizens of the UK, as Microsoft will be addressing this and many other things in the March update. Once this has been installed, your Xbox will run your TV programmes at 50Hz when in full screen mode, however it will revert to 60Hz when you switch back to the dashboard or another app. What is probably still missing is the programme listing integration via the One Guide that we saw and salivated over when the Microsoft unveiled the console last year. That is still to follow, and perhaps at that time I might hook up my Sky box to the Xbox One and see how that works, but for now those who already have this done can look forward to smooth viewing ahead.
