Hello everyone today’s game is Road Rash for the 3DO Developed and Published by EA Released in 1994.

Summary: this is one game that I was so jealous of my brother owing on his 3DO. I loved everything about it the FMV intro with Soundgarden Rusty Cage song blasting out it was so impressive especially in 1994.

Story: N/A

Gameplay: Controls are simple in Road Rash:

D-Pad Left and Right.
A Brake.
B Accelerate when you have nitro press B twice quickly to use it.
C is to punch and you can also use a weapon if you have one.
D-Pad UP & C does a Back Hand.
D-Pad Down & C does your Kick.
Left Shift & Right Shift buttons lean you right and left.

You get to pick from two modes Thrash Mode (arcade) Big Game Mode (story mode). In Big Game Mode you pick a character and your bike and go up against 14 other street racers. You must also watch out for the police, cars, pedestrians, roadworks and even cows! You must place third or higher to go through to the next race. The easiest way to do this is to race dirty and use all the weapons you find to smash your rivals on your way to victory. You will then earn money in races to buy better parts for your existing bike or treat yourself to a new one.

Gameplay is really solid in this game and everything runs nice and quick. You only get 5 tracks to play but these tracks have been really well designed and they do get longer the further you progress through the game.

Graphics: still hold up for me today but in 1994 I had never seen anything like this. The digitised look of the graphics and backgrounds really stood out to me. All the tracks are well designed and nicely detailed.

Sound: sound effects are great the game uses Dolby Pro-Logic which makes you hear the police coming up behind you and your rival racers. The music in this game is perfect some of my favourite bands Soundgarden, Monster Magnet, Therapy lots of awesome rock and metal music. The only problem is the in game music is quite generic and not the awesome bands you hear in the FMV sections and the menu screens.

Replay Value: this one will not take long to complete but you can try out the 8 different racers for a bit of variety. My go to character was always Axel. When the gameplay is so much fun you will always want to come back from time to time.

Final thoughts: I love the production value of this game with lots of story FMV and music videos and of course getting the music rights to some of the biggest bands of the time was so exciting. This game is still super fun to play and I would recommend you give it a go if you can.
