It’s the 45th anniversary of Bandai Namco’s iconic Pac-Man! And you know what that means – we’re officially old! But aside from that, it’s celebrating one of the biggest heroes in gaming, and PowerA is joining the ghost-hunting party. The company announced that it will release a trio of new accessories based on the hero’s dot-chomping universe. And today, we’ll take a closer look at two of them.
The Protection Case for Nintendo Switch not only allows you to store your system with ease on the go, but also features a customizable touch. There’s also the Wireless Controller for Xbox One/Series S/X, which lets you play your favorite games – including, yes, Pac-Man – in style.
The company was kind enough to send these over for us to try, so let’s put them through their paces!
Pac-Man PowerA Protection Case for Nintendo Switch
First up is the protection case, which continues PowerA’s trend of quality and convenience when it comes to this design. You can store your system with ease, along with several games in a separate pouch. There’s also room for your power cable as well, in case you need a quick charge.
This is a very ergonomic design that works very well, and avoids any sort of chance that something might end up damaged. What’s more, it’s very lightweight, and the outside plastic casing prevents any sort of denting. That doesn’t mean you should drop it down the stairs or anything (it’s still a delicate game console), but it’s a neat way to get around with it.
What’s really cool, however, is the customizable touch. The case itself looks like your typical Pac-Man grid with dots. However, there’s a series of magnetized little figures that you can customize the playfield with. Ever want to pit a cartoony Pac-Man against an army of ghosts? Or perhaps go crazy with the fruit overlays? This gives you that chance. It’s a clever design idea that works really well, though the magnets could come off through severe wear and tear. Again, don’t drop down the stairs.
Overall, for the asking price of $23, this isn’t a bad little case at all. It’s neatly built and holds everything you’d expect, and the customization option is 80s rad sauce. Fans are sure to love this – and maybe get creative with their design choices.

Pac-Man Wireless Controller for Xbox One/Series S/X
PowerA is actually working on two different Pac-Man controllers, though the second one is still in development. For now, however, we have the wireless controller for Xbox One/Series S/X, which is a fantastic little peripheral.
The company has done really well to adapt to certain trends with controller building. That includes incorporating “hall effect” sticks, which do away with the annoying “stick drift” issue in most peripherals. As a result, the controller handles very well with functionality. We tested a variety of games on it, including Forza Horizon 5, Monster Hunter Wilds and, of course, Pac-Man. And they all played great.
The buttons and D-pad are a bit on the “clicky” side, but you won’t mind. Plus they lend to the overall layout of the controller, fitted with its classic Pac-Man style. The rear buttons are great as well, and are programmable for whatever you need them for.
Now, it does have wireless support, but that requires you to plug in a dongle to read it. That might seem “primitive” compared to Bluetooth tech, but it actually works with very little error. The timing doesn’t seem to be off at all, and, once charged, the controller will actually last quite a few hours. For those that prefer, you can also plug in a USB cable and just keep it plugged in for simpler play. Totally up to you.
If there is one disappointment with this controller, it’s that it doesn’t light up like other PowerA models. It would’ve been great to see this display come alive with interactive lights. However, to make up for that, it does have support for glow-in-the-dark and UV displays. This is especially useful if you’re playing with it in an old-school game room. The effect is awesome, actually.
For $99, the Pac-Man wireless controller may be a bit much for some. But you get utmost quality here, from the build to the handling to the included rumble. And the extra features aren’t bad at all, up to standard with usual inclusions. Fans are sure to go waka-waka-wild over it.
