The Nintendo Switch 2 is an impressive little beast of a system. That said, we definitely know it’s on the pricey side. And so, for that matter, are the accessories. Heck, if you want a secondary dock for travel or use on an additional TV, you’re paying a good $125. And that’s a bit steep for folks these days. So it never hurts to hunt for an alternative – like the one ANTANK currently offers.
It currently offers the S3 MAX TV Dock Station for the Switch 2, a small but sufficient alternative that lets you play on your TV and remove for handheld play. What’s more, its dock is a little easier in set-up, so you don’t have to worry about the dock falling over by removing the system. Best of all, its pricing is a little more of a breath of fresh air, clocking in at $50.
Of course, being a third party accessory, the question arises. “How does its quality hold up compared to Nintendo’s?” Because there’s always the chance it’s not up to snuff, and, surprise, your system may end up damaged. Well, I’m happy to report that, despite some mild snags, this dock is pretty good.
It looks sharp, outputs without any fuss, and holds in place when in the dock. That does bring up an interesting caveat with removal, but we’ll get to that. As it stands, however, ANTANK’s alternative is more than reasonable for those seeking another dock. That said, make sure you have cables on hand, because this doesn’t come with them.
ANTANK’s Dock Holds Its Own With Build, Mostly
First, let’s talk build. The S3 MAX TV Dock Station is built to comfortably hold your system. It plugs in very easily on the bottom and holds your system in place. You then simply set up the cables (again, not included) and then switch on, and, boom, it comes on. Make sure you upload the available firmware update, just to be on the safe side. It’s simple to apply.
The dock supports 4K resolution and up to 120Hz output. We put this to the test with a variety of games, including Gex Trilogy, Donkey Kong Bananza and a few Arcade Archives titles. The end result was a nice surprise, holding its own on our television and monitors.
I think the build also allows for better heat dispersement, as it’s not all surrounded like with Nintendo’s dock. But that’s hard to measure in a state where the temperature is pretty much summer-based all summer, so I didn’t go into hardcore testing. It is nice to have it on full display though, screen and all.
ANTANK’s dock does hold the system quite sturdy. But there’s also having to remove it for handheld play. It takes a bit to get it out, and you need to be careful as you don’t want to damage the port. After some practice, I found this easy to get into. That said, be cautious doing it the first few times. You don’t want to damage your precious system on foolhardy moves.
Also…why is there a tabletop button? If you want handheld play, you should be able to just take it out, like with the original Switch 2 console. This is something we could’ve done without.
But these are minor quibbles. The dock itself is nicely built and allows the system to be a little more open. Plus, using secondary cables, I found the video and audio output to be up to snuff – and then some. And it makes for perfect display on your table or in your game collection. Plus, again, no toppling of the dock trying to take your system out. (Just a little struggle, mind you.)
Is the ANTANK TV Dock Worth It?
I think the build of the S3 MAX TV Dock Station is good overall. It doesn’t go leaps and bounds, and, again, I don’t see the need for a tabletop button. But it holds your system comfortably and even allows it to look and perform a little cooler. I think I would’ve found a way to make it easier to remove, but then maybe it wouldn’t sit so snugly. It’s not bad the way it is.
Considering cost, it’s a good value. The material within the dock is very good, and it’s easy to set up with your own cables and system. Plus it’s perfect for travel, in case you’re taking the system on vacation with you or just want to seat it comfortably on a plane or other mode of travel.
In the end, ANTANK made a pretty good dock here. Does it have its drawbacks? Sure. But for the price tag, you get a secondary dock that serves its purpose in more ways than one. Perhaps we’ll see an improved model down the line, but as it stands, this one delivers the goods.
