Coming this Autumn (Fall if you’re in the USA) Minecraft is going cross play! What this means is that anyone on the Xbox One, Windows 10, Minecraft PE or even playing on the Nintendo Switch will be able to play together!

This is a massive update to Minecraft and will impact how the game is played and also how the four different communities will interact with each other. How this is achieved is through the Bedrock game engine. The Better Together update will bring the Console editions to Bedrock which is currently what the PC version of Minecraft is designed on. This means that Cross Play will then become a reality as well as cross saves on all formats. To break it down further this means you can start a world on the Xbox One version and then load your save up on a Nintendo Switch to then load the same save up on Windows 10.  This same rule also applies to any texture and skin packs that you have purchased that are not exclusives (such as Nintendo’s Mario packs).

Minecraft will also get a texture upgrade this coming year as well in the form of the Super Duper Graphics pack. This will no doubt get the game ready for the Xbox One X.

With this massive expansion of Minecraft we will also see a dedicated Minecraft store that is currently available on the Pocket Edition to make its way onto console. This marketplace is used to download user created content as well as a platform to publish your own content if you wish to.
