It just wouldn’t be an EA E3 conference without Fifa bringing something new or different to the table. Fifa 16 brought in women’s teams last year and in previous years we’ve seen graphical jumps as well as the game changing Fifa Ultimate TeamFifa 17 has already announced its use of the Frostbyte engine so we are going to see some stunning visuals and some highly detailed capturing of football players. But the new addition this year is The Journey. Check out the trailer below.

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.

You will know his name, Hunter. Can we not know our name?

From the trailer, it looks like we will be wearing the football boots of Alex Hunter, a young breakthrough player. The cinematic looks all set up to create a fixed story. Perhaps the trailer is misleading and we will be able to create out own breakthrough player. It is hard to tell this early on. During the trailer we see Hunter fail and a drama situation develop, does this mean as well as playing football we will have to avoid sex scandals, hanging out with the wrong players and not becoming a headline in the papers? Do we get the full experience of a footballer?

The Frostbyte engine graphics look to have skipped our favorite procedural copied and pasted crowd. So many with black hair..

Will we have a fixed story, playing for England and Manchester United. Or will our performance change the clubs we play for?

It is certainly a different direction for EA with Fifa 17. I need more information to decide whether The Journey will be a welcome addition. Career mode currently fulfills my custom club needs where I can nurture new players. How will The Journey improve upon this?

Follow me on twitter, or challenge me to Fifa 16. I promise all my goals will be sweaty. @MJSaiger
