Titanfall was released last week and there is no denying that it has engulfed the Xbox gaming world with the Titans and Pilots fighting each other to the death.
You may also be pleased to know that because of Titanfall Xbox One sales in the UK have increased by 96%! Titanfall is exclusive to Microsoft platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Since it hit the shelves on March 14, it immediately claimed the number one slot on the all-formats software chart. A whopping 70% of all Xbox One units sold in the UK last week were the special edition consoles that were bundled with Titanfall. As well as this, with the price cut of the console to £399 by Microsoft, more and more people are willing to purchase an Xbox One to simply play Titanfall, which is considered as a benchmark title for the machine.
It is these measures, and the marketing campaigns by both Microsoft and Electronic Arts that might have contributed to the high sales figures of both Titanfall and the Xbox One. However, PS4 sales have also rose last week by 72.4%. A reason for this is that the console has had the strongest Christmas sales out of the two machines, coupled with a successful start to the year…. PS4 have opened a big gap over the Xbox One.
It was reported in a previous article that the PS4 were outselling the Xbox One 1.5 to 1, but this advantage is now slowing. The battle between these two consoles remains difficult to gauge, however, as their approach to global distribution differs. PS4 is currently available in over 50 countries, while Xbox One is only available in around 13.
However, the availability of the console does not matter hugely when you consider the sales of the Xbox One to date. The rise of the console units sold in the UK might have been as a result of players anticipating the release of Titanfall. If that is the case, it will be interesting to see how the PS4 fairs after the release of Infamous: Second Son on March 21.
