Good afternoon, Ladies, Gentlemen and those of a non-binary nature, my name is Daibhi and this is the Gamerhub community. One of the biggest risks to your health in my line of work is eye strain, and this often has a few solutions. You could take 15 minutes to make yourself a cup of tea, go outside and touch some grass, go complain loudly to your neighbours about how your work will end up destroying your health, or you can simply just get some glasses designed with gamers in mind. There are multiple companies around the world who can help you with the last solution, and fortunately for us writers at the hub, we have the indomitable Lew Langton, who bit the bullet and got us some to try out.

So who are Gunnar? Gunnar are a company based in Carlsbad, California who specialise in eyewear, and to help protect people from Computer Vision Syndrome. There are good reasons to want to avoid the syndrome as the symptoms are pretty nasty. Eye strain, neck aches, fatigue, headaches, blurred vision and more can be present, and the glasses they have created prevent such things from happening.

Before I start talking about my glasses, why I chose them and how they have affected my experiences playing video games for you all, I need to cover some basics we all should be following to prevent any CVS or further health risks. Firstly, make yourself comfortable when gaming, try to either use an ergonomic chair or keep your back straight. This helps improve your posture and it’s incredibly important. Your back will thank you in later life. Always keep your eyes at least 75 cm away from the screen, regardless of the screen size. Try to keep your head at the same height as the screen, to prevent neck ache. I can’t believe it’s me saying this, but please gamers, think of your safety.

So: which glasses did I pick? I picked the Humboldt glasses for multiple reasons. Firstly, I’m a huge fan of a TV show called La Casa De Papel, and when my hair is down to a mop length, I bear an uncanny resemblance to El Professor/Sergio Marquina. Thus when Lew informed the staff at the Hub about getting some glasses to review, I spent time looking for his glasses. The closest on Gunnar’s website is this particular model of spectacles I’m wearing now, called The Humboldt.

The glasses themselves are brilliant. They’re comfortable, and very ergonomic. Unlike my other specs, these are very eco-friendly. The frames are made out of wood, which the eco-warrior in me really appreciated the lack of plastic. The only plastic used in getting these glasses to me was the packaging FedEx used to get the box containing the glasses to me. Inside the white box was the wooden Gunnar glasses case. Inside the case were my glasses and a velvety soft case, which would help me keep them safe when on the go.

So, how have they affected my gaming? Well, I’ve had these things for the better part of 24 hours, and I have to admit gamers, I slept a lot better yesterday after wearing this whilst preparing my research and gameplay for tomorrow (the 5th of June 2024’s) review. My eyes didn’t feel sore and I didn’t have my traditional end-of-night headaches like I do half of the time (largely because my work-life balance sucks). The faint yellow tint added to my specs helped me appreciate the vivid colours on my screen more, and these glasses are surprisingly lightweight, meaning that half of the time, I didn’t even realise that they were on my head.

The less we say about the Dennis Rodman jersey, the better. Mmm’Kay?

Our usual way of rating things is using a certain amount of joysticks out of 5, but in this case, that rating system doesn’t apply. If you would like to get yourself a pair of these beautiful things, then I highly recommend going to https://gunnar.com/collections/gaming-glasses/products/humboldt, and if you want the ones I have, they are the ebony ones with the amber tint.

I really, really like these glasses and strongly suggest you get yourself a pair.

For the Gamerhub, I’ve been Daibhi and you are all legends.

Thanks to Gunnar for these glasses, I adore them.
