Hello everyone today’s game is Double Dragon for the Arcade. Developed and published by Techons Japan. Released in 1987.

Summary: This is my favourite Arcade game of all time. I know there has been better beat’em ups after and better arcade games, but this was one of the first I played back in 1987.

Story: Billy’s girlfriend Marian has been kidnapped by the Black Warrior gang. So it’s up to you to take the fight to the streets and take out the leader of the Black Warrior gang willy.

Gameplay: was easy to pick up with 3 buttons Kick, Jump and Punch. A combation of buttons would make you do Throws and Elbow strikes. You could also grab an enemy in 2 player so your mate could duff them up while you hold them.

I loved how the stages just flowed in to one big level and how you could take enemies weapons and use them against them. Some of the weapons are Baseball Bats, Whips, Throwing Knives and Dynamite. You can also pick up Rocks, Oil Drums and boxes on your way. The enemies are all very memorable. Who could forget the moment when you had to fight with your friend at the end to get the girl.

Graphics: I was 9 and I was amazed at the graphics Billy and Jimmy Lee called out to me. I love Bruce Lee films and this made me feel like I was in a martial arts film. I will never forget when I first saw Abobo smash out of the wall and come towards me he looked giant at the time what a moment what a game.

Music: When I see a picture of Double Dragon or someone talks about it the music always pops in to my head and brings a great big smile to my face. This music will always bring back memories of my favourite time as a kid playing games in the arcades.

Replay Value: for me it’s endless I play this game at least twice year. I will never get bored of this beat’em up classic.

Final thoughts: The memories always come flooding back when ever I play Double Dragon. It’s definitely an Icon of the arcades and will always be my favourite.

Come and share your memories in Forever Arcade Facebook group thanks Jay.
